Who Am I?

I’m Courtney, the voice behind “The Dope Teacher.” I like to refer to myself as a seasoned (not burnt out... yet) ELA teacher with over a decade in the classroom. I’ve spent years figuring out how to get kids to love reading and writing—without forcing them to diagram sentences like it’s 1892. During my time in Undergrad, shoutout West Chester University, I was introduced to a TedTalk by Rita Pierson, Every Child Needs a Champion. Since then, I have lived by her words, “kids don’t learn from teachers they don’t like.”  I believe in building real connections with students, because let’s be honest: if they don’t trust you, they’re not writing anything except “IDK” on every assignment.
